Audio-reactive piano visuals in TouchDesigner

This project came from wanting to try something outside my usual photo and video work: audio-reactive visuals in TouchDesigner. I wanted to see whether music, specifically piano playing, could directly control visual content in real time.

Sound as input for visuals

TouchDesigner lets you turn the piano's audio signal into parameters that drive 3D geometry and textures, so every note or chord changes the shape, colour or movement of the visuals on screen. I prepared some of the 3D models in Blender and then brought them into TouchDesigner, where I set up audio-reactive nodes that connect everything live.

Why this matters for live shows and stages

Visuals like this are ideal for concerts and live performances, because the audience gets an extra layer of experience that reacts to the music in real time, instead of a pre-recorded video just playing in the background. For me this was an introduction to multimedia and stage design, a field I want to keep developing through future projects.

If you're putting on an event or a show and want visuals that react to live music, get in touch. I'd love to develop projects like this for your performance or brand.
