Reflections of the Self: an interactive installation on perception and psychology

This project is an experimental interactive installation in which I explored how people perceive themselves through sound and image. The music was made by Bojan Crnogorčić, also known as Londa, whom I'd already worked with on the Čarobna frula project, so this was another chance to combine our skills.

When the audience chooses between pleasant and unpleasant music

The installation asks the visitor a simple question: is the music they're hearing unpleasant or pleasant? Depending on the answer, the visuals change in real time. Behind it is a TouchDesigner system I connected to Ableton Live, OpenAI Whisper and a microphone, so every choice the audience makes directly affects what they see on screen. Each word triggers a particular group of photos, which then appear on the projector with different background music. For example, if you say the word “sea”, one of the photos of the sea, water or the ocean appears on the wall.

Why psychology and mental health

I was interested in how subjective our perception of sound and image is, and how two people can experience the same content completely differently depending on their own emotional state. For me this project combined interaction design with exploring psychology through art, something I want to develop further in future installations.

If you're interested in working together on an interactive installation, an exhibition or a multimedia project that combines sound and image, get in touch. I'd love to do more experiments like this.
